Did you hear? Did you SEE? Saturday’s classic car show event by Away days! Well if you didn’t or want a rebound of just about everything from this big event look no further!

First of all, it felt like the whole state was there, so many people were showing up. Businesses, car lovers and just curious people looking for a cool car show! So where do we start?

The cars of course. The theme was classic and boy was there many different types. Expensive, not, restored, unique.. weird and more. The general thought on showing up for people seemed to be the eagerness to see the charisma of the cars. “It’s not about performance but to see the character, where you can see the person’s personality by simply looking at the car” – Visitor

Our own Saoirse Windley went around and talked to people about their cars, trying to find the most and least expensive one. Here’s what she found:

Least expensive “The Cardboard Box”: 

Erin Dunn approximately $3,000 Dunn intentionally didn’t bring a “pride and joy.” Said the car rattles/sounds odd in places but gets them from Point A to Point B. Fun contrast against all of the pristine/expensive cars. 

Most expensive “One of a Kind”:
Peregrine Kovalenko approximately $500,000 One-of-a-kind WWII-era vehicle. Only two of its kind in Los Santos, according to the owner. 

That’s a $497,000 difference between the cheapest and most expensive cars at the same show. This really goes to show you didn’t need an expensive car to belong there.

You could find just about anything here, it seemed people were always running to the next thing to check out. Among all the things we met the Joker who showed up in a little cheesewedge, a ranger proudly standing with his truck, keeping the other cars in line, a moonwalking car bouncing in the back. 

I went around and asked a few people what their favorite car was, excluding their own. I found that many people have vastly different tastes and that was wonderful to see, there was something for everyone. There seemed to be one car who got a few extra votes however, the one I called the car from cars but apparently that was not the inspiration for it. A Bravado Vulture owned by August Windley with customs done with inspiration for old ‘69 Daytona charger.

Now you didn’t just have to spend your time walking around looking at cars, although I truly didn’t tire of it, pun intended. Many people said their favorite part was the race!

O’boy was there racing, several drag races were done with all unique mixes. The corners truly did catch some off guard and from what I heard some love bumps. All n all the racers and spectators seemed to be having a blast. “I enjoyed watching my car race” – Car owner who had others race for him.

As the event seemed to slowly come to an end it certainly didn’t wind down! A fantastic stage was set up and 3 musical talents performed!

It was at this time I took the opportunity to get the Owner Luke Winters and Co-Owner Colton Jones of Away Days for an interview.

What was the idea of this event?
“A grand opening for our business, why it became a car show was for slightly selfish reasons as we both really like cars and wanted to see lots of them. However it also brings the community together, shining light on the different ideas as well as hopefully bringing some business to the other businesses that we invited and are here. The whole idea was more so a ‘Go big!’ Show that we can do large scale events!” – Luke Winters & Colton Jones

Why specifically here? What made you choose this spot?
“Well I am a pilot so I’ve come here a lot before and well it is a really open space to set up, maintain and control, even a big garage for if it happens to rain. Plus its out of the way from the big city so there’s no risk of causing any disturbances for anyone else.” – Luke Winters

So the idea of Away Days is to help anyone that wants to set up an event. What’s the process like?

“So we will sit down with you, hear what you want. You might not have an idea but want something for your team or the community or you might have it all planned out but not sure how to do it. We will sit down, brainstorm what you want and once it’s all noted down we will set out and come up with 1-3 ideas with budgets and return to you. Maybe you like one of the ideas or maybe you like parts of one and parts of another, we will then put all of that together and from there it is hands off for you. The idea is that you just have to bring your team.” – Luke Winters & Colton Jones

“You can find us in the directory when we’re around but we also have a website that is being finalized. Typically there is always someone around but can also find us on socials. Why ‘classic’ cars?
“Classic means a lot of different things to different people, nostalgia, old, or just what they might think is “classic”. We weren’t gonna be sticklers and say what was allowed and not, we wanted to see a wide range and what people would bring!” – Luke Winters

Away Days future plans?
We all know we want more of these kinds of events and I so happened to hear there will be more! Away Days may not be about doing their own events but with a note from the owner we should all keep our eyes open for a next time! Perhaps closer to the holidays.

Final notes:
So, how was this event? A raging success I’d say, everything was organised from the moment I arrived. Clear instructions on where to go, there was no confusion and you could always find an employee if you needed. The timeframe seemed to be rather perfect with keeping interest and not stressing. From what I could tell talking to all the different vendors as well everything was smooth and easy. Away Days have certainly shown they can handle it! Handling behind the scenes, good communication and letting just about everyone else sit back and enjoy.

All it seems they need is someone who can dream up an event!
